Director of Aviation Services, Weathernews Americas Inc., Norman, Oklahoma (2003-present).

  1. Active involvement with domestic and international aviation industry groups (the FAA, the NWS, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the ICAO, the NCAR, the NOAA, and various academic institutions)
  2. Coordination of research and development opportunities for the company
  3. Assisting the Weathernews’ global sales staff as a subject matter expert.Team member of one year project with FAA: Center Weather Service Unit Post-Operational Study, Remote Delivery Platform Proof of Concept Study (10/2005-9/2006).

 

Manager of Weather Services, American Airlines, Inc., Ft. Worth, Texas (1991-2003)

  1. Managed staff of 21 meteorologists who provided operational support for American Airlines and American Eagle Airlines.
  2. Position involved:
    1. administrative duties of managing the staff
    2. setting up and conducting training for meteorologists and flight dispatchers
    3. interfacing with and providing meteorological expertise to multiple departments within both airlines
    4. involvement and leadership in aviation industry with regard to weather issues
    5. accident/incident investigation including providing depositions.
  3. Managed projects:
    1. conversion of airport surface weather observations from the old SA/FT code to the international TAF/METAR code
    2. conversion to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-standard finer grid GRIdded Binary (GRIB) upper air forecasts of winds and temperatures used in airline flight planning systems
    3. R&D Project Hub-CAPS with the University of Oklahoma to assist the airline with the mitigation of effects from severe thunderstorms (more below)

Chairman, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Meteorological Task Force (1998-current): IATA is a commercial aviation industry trade group which meets semi-annually in Geneva and Montreal and frequently conducts committee business via e-mail. Active participant in meetings of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) including the Aeronautical Meteorology Sub-group of GREPECAS, and the World Meteorological Organization including the World Area Forecast System Study Group, and others.

Board member, Norman Chamber of Commerce (June 2006-present)

Co-Chairman, Norman (Oklahoma) Chamber of Commerce Weather Committee (inaugural October 2004-present), a committee made up of professionals, meteorologists and city business leaders, which address the plans for “weather business” in this community. The area is home to more than two dozen weather-related groups from government to academia to the private sector.

Member, American Meteorological Society, served a 3-year term on the Aviation, Range and Aerospace Meteorology Committee and two 3-year terms on the Board on Continuing Education. The committee work involved the coordination and execution of the Sixth AMS Conference on Aviation Weather Systems in Dallas in 1995, as well as the presentation of a paper on the commercial airline use of a meteorological staff.

 

AA Project Lead (1996-1999), Project Hub-CAPS, a three-year cooperative research project with OU, which studied the feasibility of storm-scale numerical weather prediction. Initiated discussion and justified value of the project within AA that led to the Company’s funding of the $1 million venture. The successful project involved coordinating the testing and monitoring the system for day-to-day use by AA meteorologists.
           
Chairman (1995), Air Transport Association (ATA) Meteorological Committee, a group that met several times annually and had bi-weekly teleconferences. Group was disbanded with ATA reorganization in 2003.
